RIYADH: The Balsam medical team performed 14 heart surgeries in Tanzania in two days.
“The team performed two surgeries on its second day in Dar es Salaam, the former capital of Tanzania,” said Dr. Imad Bukhari, professor and consultant of cardiothoracic surgery.
The team also performed open-heart surgeries at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute. The first was on a 60-year-old man and the other on a 16-year-old girl.
“Both cases were very difficult,” said Dr. Rakan Nazer, a heart surgeon.
“This was because the patients had been suffering for so long. However, both the patients are stable and recovering.”
Dr. Walid Al-Harbi and Dr. Rahim Gul also performed nine surgical catheterizations.
The team also successfully performed 14 interventional catheterization surgeries. An anesthesiologist, assistant surgeon, cardiologists, and heart surgeons took part in this success.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Janabi expressed his admiration for the performance of the medical team. He thanked them for their charitable efforts.
